Dikko Meets President Tinubu, Reaffirms Government–Sports Partnership
By Niyi Busari
The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, on Thursday paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, where he presented him with a customized Super Eagles jersey, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The symbolic gesture was captured in a video shared by Sunday Moses, the President’s official photographer, via his verified Instagram account on February 19, 2026. The footage shows Dikko formally handing over the green-and-white jersey to the President in appreciation of the administration’s continued support for sports development in Nigeria.
During the brief ceremony, both men exchanged pleasantries and posed for photographs, underscoring what officials described as a strong working relationship between the Federal Government and the country’s football authorities.
The presentation highlighted the administration’s stated commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure, expanding youth participation and enhancing Nigeria’s global image through football and other sporting disciplines.
The visit comes on the heels of recent engagements at the National Assembly, where the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation and the National Institute for Sports defended their respective budget proposals as part of the ongoing federal appropriation process.
