Doma United Move Up To 2nd In Group B

Usman Musa scored twice as Nigeria Prifessional Football League new comers, Doma United returned to winning ways with a dominant victory over relegation-threatened Wikki Tourists.

The hosts cut the gap to league leaders Lobi Stars to just one point, after they were subdued 3-0 by Bayelsa United in Yenagoa in the NPFL match day 14 clash.

It was a thoroughly comfortable day for Akinade Onigbinde’s men, who looked comfortable as they controlled the game from blast of the referee’s whistle but failed to hit the back of the net until the 43rd minute when Usman Musa converted from the spot after Hillary was fouled inside the area.

The 22-year-old Doma United’s top scorer this season added his second with a delightfully right footed dinked finish three minutes after the restart of the second half, but could not add to his tally after being substituted mid-way through the second half.

Earlier in the game, goalkeeper James Faith made superb flying stops to deny Andrew Majalisa twice, first it was a left footed free-kick from the right side after Hillary was fouled and the second was a thunderbolt after he controlled the ball with his right foot and drafted it to his favourite left to send in a fierce strike but the keeper punched it away to safety.

While the Gombe based side might have dominated the game, Wikki Tourists had chances of their own as well but Kingdom Osayi was always right on time to keep them at bay.

Before the game, Doma United were fourth on the log behind Niger Tornadoes on goal differences but have now overtaken both Tornadoes and Rivers to move to the second spot on 22 points, one point behind leaders Lobi Stars who have 23 points.

Technical Advicer, Akinade Onigbinde made some changes to the team that lost away at Dakkada fortnight ago as he drafted in Usman Musa who just returned from injury while Auwal Abubakar maintained his place ahead of Maurice Chigozie. There was also a starting spot for Charles Chibuke who started for the first time in NPFL since the return of the league after the break.

Usman Musa and Samuel Matthew were booked for Doma United.

Coming out of their recent FA Cup win over Gombe United, the Savannah Tigers will next host high flying Bayelsa United in match day 15 of the NPFL at the Pantami Stadium on Sunday 23rd April 2023.
