Early Goal Cost Leverkusen Defeat Against Werder Bremen

Super Eagles Nathan Tella has given his thoughts after Bayer Leverkusen lost 0-2 to Werder Bremen at the BayArena on Saturday, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

It was the first time since May 2023 that Bayer Leverkusen lost two consecutive games, having lost to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg at the Allianz Arena in the week.

"We always lacked the final pass and effectiveness in both boxes. We didn't get into the tackles and didn't take our chances to put the ball in the net. Of course, the defeat is disappointing, but we have so much strength of character as a team and have had setbacks in the past from which we have come back. And we'll do the same this time," Tella said.

On whether conceding an early goal impacted the team: "Of course, that affects the course of the game, but we stayed true to our principles, and it was always the last action that was missing. Whether it was in the tackle, the cross or the finish. It's disappointing."

On how the team will be able to focus on Tuesday now: "We'll look at everything in detail tomorrow and work on our mistakes to make up for the disappointing performance today and this week. We have to make the best of a bad situation."
