Ecuador 1-0 Nigeria: Peseiro Blames Loss To Ecuador On VAR Absence, Referee
By Niyi Busari
Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro has blamed the Super Eagles loss to Ecuador on absence of VAR and center referee for denying the team a penalty, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Super Eagles in their second international friendly match in the USA lost 0-1 to Ecuador on Friday morning four days after a 2-1 Peseiro's debut loss to Mexico.
The Portuguese tactician argued that his boys played better and deserved not to lose had the match official gave a penalty in the match.
"Of course, I dont want to speak about referee but at least one penalty (should have been awarded to Super Eagles)." Peseiro told journalists during the post-match presser.
He continued, " No VAR but in the start of the show, there was a clear penalty. The goalkeeper touched the foot of our striker. I dont know but I was told we had another penalty also but the referee didnt give it to us. But it is okay, anybody can commit mistakes. Even the players can make mistake also."
He added, "Today in the first half we didnt well but in the last 25 minutes. Only in the first 50 minutes we didnt play like we should but they commanded the match after 50 minutes.
"The second half much better but it is not easy to put pressure on opponents for 90 minutes. Today, we play better than against Mexico. I hope we will take this today to our AFCON match against Sierra Leone."
