Ecuador Outclass Host Qatar In 2022 FIFA World Cup Opener

The 21st edition of the FIFA World Cup kick-off in Qatar on Sunday and it was a day to forget for the host as they were outplayed by Ecuador, BSNSports.com.ng report.

The Americans who had the first goal of the tournament disallowed as offside, beat hosts, 2-0 to climb the table with three maximum points.

After a colourful opening ceremony, the game finally kicked off with the South American country dominating the game and pegging back Qatar.

Ecuador captain Enner Valencia proved too difficult to handle for the Qatar defenders and he has the ball in the net in the 3rd minute but Video Assistant Referee ( VAR) ruled it out.

He finally scored a legitimate goal in the 16th minute from the penalty spot after he was brought down by the Qatari defender.

He completed his brace with the second goal in the 31st minute of the game and ensured that Ecuador went into the break with a comfortable lead.

The second stanza resumed with the host showing better performance and they were able to contain the rampaging Ecuador's forward line led by Valencia and made sure that they kept a respectable 2-0 scoreline.

Qatar will face Senegal and Netherlands in their second and last group matches.
