Edo FA Election: Why NFF Must Act Fast
By Admin
When the statute of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is being violated, it is important and necessary to call the attention of the football governing body in Nigeria to it for redress.
The update coming from Edo State concerning the proposed Football Association election is gradually turning into turmoil thereby turning the game in the state into a house of commotion.
The tenure of the FA board in the state ended on the 8th of June, 2023, and the Normalisation Committee was supposed to have taken the reign of office pending the election but the Nigeria Football Federation( NFF) under President Ibrahim Gusau decided to extend their tenure until the 30th of October, 2023.
The country's apex football body gave the extension for the board to organize the election and for the board to resume office, surprisingly the Normalization Committee is unable to discharge its primary duty.
To make the case worse, the outgoing board was alleged to have hijacked the whole process and started pushing for a particular candidate of their choice to emerge as the new FA Chairman which is against the law guiding the office they are holding.
Apart from the alleged sponsoring of a candidate for the top position, they were also alleged of backed some candidates to vie for more than 5 positions in the association.
The outgoing board is now calling for a meeting slated to be held on the 13th of November, 2023 which they lacked the power to do.
Going by the rule, the Edo State FA has had no board from October 30th, 2023 as their tenure elongation has ended and NFF has not put in place a Normalisation Committee.
With what is going on in Edo State, it is time for the NFF and its president Gusau to wade in and stop the outgoing board from exercising obligations with which they have no power to do and even stop parading themselves as a board member of the state FA.
NFF as a matter of urgency set up a Normalisation committee to take charge of the board with a mandate to conduct a free and fair election within a particular period.
Edo State is one of the most important in the country when it comes to football matters and NFF must do everything within its capacity to protect it from being grounded by the selfish attitude of some people who have seen the FA as their conduit pipe.
