In a show of solidarity and support, the Edo State Sports Commission has visited ailing former Super Eagles coach and ex-Bendel Insurance player, Kadiri Ikhana, who is currently receiving treatment at the Irrua Specialist Hospital in Edo State, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Responding to widespread concerns and distress calls about Ikhana’s deteriorating health, the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Desmond Amadin Enabulele, dispatched a delegation to visit the ailing football legend.
The team, led by the Executive Director representing Edo North on the Sports Commission board, Hon. Frank Ilaboya, included other key sports officials who met with Ikhana at the hospital.
Speaking during the visit, Coach Ikhana expressed his gratitude to the Commission and said the show of concern had lifted his spirits. “This gesture will certainly aid my recovery. I’m deeply grateful for what you have done. I feel a lot better and believe I may even be discharged tomorrow,” he said.
The former African Coach of the Year praised Enabulele as a pragmatic and compassionate leader and offered prayers for his success in steering the Commission to greater heights. Ikhana also extended his best wishes to Bendel Insurance Football Club ahead of the 2025/2026 season.
Accompanying Ilaboya on the visit were Hon. Osaro Jeffrey, Coordinator of Bendel Insurance FC, and Faith Ojeaga, a member of the Edo State Football Association Board representing Edo Central.
The visit follows a recent public appeal by former Nigeria international, Dr. Olusegun Odegbami, who drew attention to Ikhana’s worsening health and urged government and football stakeholders to intervene in support of the ailing legend.
