Former Nigeria's Super Eagles handler Austin Eguavoen has ostentatiously rejected a 'failure ' tag being placed on him, BSNsports.com.ng understand.
'Cerezo' took over as Super Eagles coach after the sacking of Gernot Rohr and was in charge during the 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
The team failed to go beyond the second round in Cameroon and majorly crashed out of the 2022 Qatar World Cup after losing out to the Black Stars of Ghana in the playoffs.
The outcome of the playoffs led to fans calling for the ouster of the coach, in which later resigned as the gaffer of the team.
While speaking on the cable television as a guest, Eguavoen said he doesn't regret taking the appointment.
" I don't see myself as a failure, I don't have any regret taking the Super Eagles job.
I can't reject the call to serve, maybe the Super Eagles don't have the character, I used the word maybe .
I also think the emotion was overwhelming," he said.
