Sampson Adedeji
The technical adviser of the Nigeria Premier League side Rivers United Stanley Eguma has reacted to the Confederation Cup draw released by the African Soccer governing body, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Pride of Rivers were drawn in the first preliminary round of the competition but will face the winner between Etoile Du Filante (Burkina Faso) and Zingquor ( Senegal) in the second round.
Eguma remained optimistic about going far in this season's competition and said they will not take their second-round opponents for granted.
" The draw is out and we have respect for our opponents because considering the football being played in these countries Burkina Faso and Senegal.
We know Senegal is a strong power in African football recently, so we can not take them for granted.
"I believe they are strong opposition, and that we are drawn bye in the first round is an advantage to us and we will not take it for granted.
We would work extra hard because those that played in the first round would have the advantage of tasting the competition.
"We are working very hard after the Super 8 tournament, we came back to regroup and correct some mistakes we noticed last season.
"When we lost out in the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final, we lost some players but we have tried to get quality replacements, and I think by the time we work very well we will come out a stronger team
"I'm optimistic that we are going to do well and go beyond the quarter-final we achieved last season", he said.
