Egypt has officially declared its readiness to host the 2028 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), joining the growing list of countries seeking to stage Africa’s premier football tournament, BSNSports.com.ng reports

The announcement was made by Egypt’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Achraf Sobhi, who confirmed that the country is fully prepared to submit a bid and host the competition if selected by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

According to Sobhi, Egypt possesses the required infrastructure, experience, and organizational capacity to successfully deliver the tournament, citing the country’s modern stadiums, training facilities, and transport networks.

He also highlighted Egypt’s rich history in hosting major continental and international sporting events.

Egypt is the most successful nation in AFCON history, having won the tournament a record seven times.

The North African nation has also hosted the competition on several occasions, most recently in 2019, when it successfully staged an expanded 24-team edition.

CAF is expected to open the bidding process for the 2028 AFCON in the coming months, with several African nations already expressing interest. Egypt’s declaration further intensifies the competition to host the prestigious event.

The final decision on the host country will be made by CAF following a comprehensive evaluation of all submitted bids.
