Egypt is set to host the 2026 African Senior Weightlifting Championships in the city of Ismailia, as the continent’s top weightlifters prepare for one of Africa’s biggest sporting events, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The championship will take place from May 10 to May 17, 2026, and is expected to attract elite athletes from across Africa competing in different weight categories.

The tournament remains one of the major events on the African weightlifting calendar, providing athletes the opportunity to represent their respective countries while battling for continental titles and honours.

Several African nations are expected to participate in the competition, with the event also serving as a platform for athletes to improve their rankings and showcase their talents on the international stage.

Organisers are optimistic that the championship in Ismailia will further promote the growth of weightlifting across the continent while strengthening Egypt’s reputation as a host of major sporting events.
