Nigeria’s national wheelchair basketball team has departed for Luanda, Angola, to compete in the 2026 Commonwealth Games qualifiers scheduled to hold from March 22 to 27.

An eight-member squad will represent the country at the tournament, where they are set to face top international opponents in a bid to secure qualification for the next Commonwealth Games.

Speaking ahead of the team’s departure, President of the Nigeria Wheelchair Basketball Federation, Seyi Johnson, expressed confidence in the team’s readiness and prospects.

He noted that the athletes have undergone thorough preparation and possess the resilience and determination required to achieve a positive outcome in the competition.

Johnson also highlighted the broader significance of the qualifiers, describing the event as an opportunity not only to compete at a high level but also to demonstrate the progress of wheelchair basketball in Nigeria.

Nigeria’s participation underscores its ongoing commitment to the development of inclusive sports and the promotion of para-sports on the global stage.
