Ekong Scores Own Goal As Al Kholood Fall To Neom
Sampson Adedeji Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong was unfortunate to score an own goal in Al Kholood’s 3-2 home defeat to Neom in the Saudi Arabian league on Thursday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Ekong’s misfortune came in the 32nd minute, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead. The match marked his seventh appearance of the season in the Saudi topflight.
The loss leaves Al Kholood ninth on the table with nine points from their opening fixtures.
Notably, Ekong had also scored an own goal for Nigeria during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier against South Africa in Bloemfontein, a game that ended 1-1 and cost the Super Eagles an automatic qualification spot.
Despite that setback, Ekong and his teammates will now prepare for next month’s African playoffs in Morocco, where Nigeria will face Gabon.
