Elegbeleye: NPFL Clubs Not Ready For Abridged League Can Leave

Interim Management Committee (IMC) chairman, Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye says that they have taken the bull by the horn, as any NPFL club who feels dissatisfied with the abridged format for the new domestic football season can leave.

“The league will start on Jan 8th with draws for Dec 28th on 100% abridged format, any club not ready might decide to leave.

"The NFF advised we should go for an abridged league.

“Some club owners wanted the last top four teams to represent Nigeria for next season on the continent because they want the league to end in July.

“A club chairman informed that his players want to rest because they played on the continent."

Speaking as regards the domestic league back on television: “The NPFL will be on NTA as we have an assurance from them. For cable networks, it might not start with the first few matches but later on in the season.”

As regards the indemnities of match officials Elegbeleye: “We won’t owe any referee for next season despite inheriting 500m naira referee debt.”

Draw for the NPFL season is expected to take place on December 28th in Abuja.
