Elegbeleye Denies Granting Interview On NPFL Chairmanship Position

Honourable Gbenga Elegbeleye says there was no iota of truth in the report as regards the chairmanship position of the new Nigeria Professional League, reports BSNSports.com.ng.

The former Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC) was quoted by an online source that he was not interested in becoming the Chairman of the Nigeria Professional League.

"I have been tasked with the task of getting the domestic football league viable again as the chairman of the Interim Management Company (IMC).

" We have been given a three months time frame by the Nigeria Football Federation(NFF) to make sure the season kicks off, and that my members and I have been doing as we have been working round the clock.

"We have been able to secure sponsorship of the league, met with clubs and agreed to work together to make the league better.

"So, for the reporter to say that I suggested names of those whom I considered capable of managing the NPFL to the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare or am tactically plotting to take over the leadership league is shocking. We have in our hands so much to do and to start talking about taking over is a distraction.

Elegbeleye, who urged the clubs to standardise their facilities to be television-friendly, said the league would witness a vast change and the matches would be televised live to showcase the players and standard of the country’s football.
