By BSN Sports

The National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Enugu State Government have stepped up preparations for the 23rd National Sports Festival, tagged the “Coal City Games, Enugu 2026,” with the Main Organising Committee (MOC) set to inspect sports facilities and other critical infrastructure across the state, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The MOC delegation is expected to arrive in Enugu on August 25, 2026, ahead of a comprehensive inspection scheduled for August 26 and 27. The exercise will culminate on August 28 with the unveiling of the official Coal City Games logo and mascot by the Local Organising Committee (LOC).

The inspection will focus on the readiness of competition and training venues, accommodation facilities, transportation and logistics arrangements, supporting infrastructure and other operational requirements essential to the successful hosting of the Games.

It will also provide an opportunity for the MOC and LOC to assess the progress of preparations, identify areas requiring further attention and agree on measures to ensure that all necessary facilities and operational structures are delivered within the stipulated timelines.

The Director-General of the NSC and Chairman of the MOC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, will lead the Commission’s delegation to Enugu for the inspection.

The exercise is part of the NSC’s ongoing engagement with the Enugu State Government to ensure that preparations for the 23rd National Sports Festival remain on schedule and meet the required standards for hosting Nigeria’s premier multi-sport event.

The NSC expressed confidence that continued collaboration between the MOC and LOC will contribute to the successful delivery of the Festival in line with internationally accepted standards, while further promoting and strengthening Nigeria’s rich sporting heritage.
