Enugu State stood still on Saturday bid as Governor Peter Mbah joined thousands of mourners, dignitaries, and football greats to bid farewell to Christian “Chairman” Chukwu, the legendary Rangers captain and Nigerian icon, who passed on at 74, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

At the funeral service in Obe, Nkanu West LGA, Governor Mbah hailed Chukwu’s humility, discipline, and enduring impact on Nigerian football, describing him as “an inimitable figure whose legacy will inspire generations.”

He restated the Enugu State Government’s commitment to immortalize the football legend, assuring Chukwu’s family and community of the state’s continuous support: “You are not alone. Your son loved and served Enugu and Nigeria with all his heart.”

The ceremony drew an impressive roll call of leaders, sportsmen, and admirers—including Peter Obi, Ken Nnamani, Victor Umeh, Frank Nweke Jr., and football icons Henry Nwosu and Emmanuel Amunike—who gathered to honour the man whose name is etched forever in the annals of African football.
