Enyimba Fans Raise Relegation Fears After Home Defeat
By Our Reporter
Supporters of Enyimba FC have expressed growing concern over the club’s form following a 1–0 home defeat to Ikorodu City FC in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The loss, suffered in Aba on Sunday, leaves Enyimba 14th on the league table with 31 points, heightening fears among fans that the former champions could be drawn into a relegation battle if results do not improve.
Several supporters voiced frustration over the team’s inability to secure points at home — traditionally regarded as a stronghold. “Enyimba are now giving away points in Aba,” lamented Chukwuemeka Onwuka, reflecting the mood of many in attendance.
Others, including Chimaobi Williams, Godwin Kalu and Benet Nwachukwu, questioned the club’s direction, noting that four different coaches have handled the team during the current campaign without delivering the expected turnaround in fortunes.
In response to the club’s struggles, Abia State Governor Alex Otti recently approved structural changes aimed at stabilising the team. The restructuring included the appointment of Deutsch Emmanuel Gustave as Head Coach and Daniel Eke as Sporting Director.
Despite those measures, Enyimba’s inconsistent performances have left supporters anxious, with many calling for urgent improvements to steer the club away from the lower reaches of the NPFL standings as the season progresses.
