Enyimba Restore Stability with Deutsch Appointment, Uche Okechukwu’s Return
By Our Reporter
Normalcy has returned to Enyimba FC following weeks of internal power struggles that left the club operating under a cloud of uncertainty, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The nine-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions had found themselves in an unusual situation, effectively functioning with two technical heads amid boardroom disagreements. That impasse has now been resolved with the confirmation and unveiling of Cameroonian coach Emmanuel Deutsch as Technical Adviser and the reinstatement of Uche Okechukwu as Vice-Chairman of the club.
The development signals the end of Deji Ayeni’s short-lived tenure. Ayeni had been appointed by the club’s management following the dismissal of Stanley Eguma, but his position became entangled in the broader administrative dispute. The club is now expected to reach an amicable settlement with the former coach.
Okechukwu, fondly known as the “Gentle Giant,” returns to the vice-chairmanship after a brief stint as Sporting Director. The former Super Eagles captain had initially been elevated to that role after the resignation of Ifeanyi Ekwueme. His reinstatement is viewed as a move to strengthen institutional stability at board level.
The unveiling ceremony was conducted by Abia State Deputy Governor, Hon. Engr. Ikechukwu Lekwachi Emetu, alongside the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Hon. Nwaobilor Nwadinma Ananaba. The officials formally presented the new appointees to players and staff, underscoring the state government’s backing of the club.
Delivering a goodwill message on behalf of the Governor, the Deputy Governor reiterated the administration’s commitment to Enyimba’s growth and welfare, describing the club as a symbol of pride for Abia State and Nigerian football. He urged unity among players, coaches and management in the quest to restore the club’s competitive edge.
Deutsch takes immediate charge of the technical department, tasked with reinvigorating the squad as the season enters a decisive phase. His appointment is seen as a strategic effort to steady the team and reassert its ambitions domestically and on the continent.
In a related move, Daniel Eke has been appointed Sporting Director. Previously part of the club’s scouting network, Eke will oversee recruitment, player development and the long-term sporting vision of the former African champions.
With the restructuring complete, Enyimba’s focus shifts firmly back to on-field matters as they prepare for a crucial Matchday 27 encounter against Rivers United FC in Port Harcourt.
