Enyimba's Obioma Deal To Esperance Collapse

By Gbenga Gboyega

Following the initial approach made by the Tunisian club - Espérance Sportive de Tunis for the services of last season's NPFL top scorer Chukwuemeka Obioma, bsnsports.com.ng has received reports that the talks have now broken down.

The 4-time CAF Champions League winners were let down by their attacking setup last season as they were knocked out of the competition in the quarterfinals at the hands of country rivals CF Sfaxien.

But, to bolster their attacking options going into the 2023-24 campaign, Espérance approached reigning NPFL champions Enyimba International to propose an offer for the 24-year-old who rocked the Nigerian League with 19 goal contributions (16 goals, & 3 assists) in 20 games last season.

However, the proposed bid did not sit well with the Kanu-led administration at the helm of affairs in Enyimba that stalled the offer and kept their man for the next best offer.

According to reports making the rounds, Obioma, whose two-year contract has expired, is on the radar of three clubs as approached by his agent, including Etoile du Sahel and AS Soliman as the other two.

Also, the factor that involves Espérance keeping a foreign slot in their squad for Algerian international Youcef Belaïli could have been critical to the club's decision not to press further in the negotiations.
