Eric Chelle Claims Some Individuals Oppose His Continued Tenure As Super Eagles Coach

Head coach of the Nigerian national football team, Eric Chelle, has said that certain individuals are working against his continued tenure as manager of the Super Eagles, despite having a year remaining on his current contract.

Chelle made the remark while addressing the ongoing uncertainty surrounding his contractual situation with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The coach, who guided Nigeria to a third-place finish at the Africa Cup of Nations, still has one year left on his existing deal with the federation. Following the team’s performance at the continental tournament, discussions reportedly began on extending his contract by an additional two years. The proposal was said to have received backing from both the NFF and the National Sports Commission.

However, negotiations have slowed in recent weeks. Reports suggest that talks stalled after details of Chelle’s contract demands were leaked to the media. The development coincided with speculation linking the coach to a potential move to Olympique de Marseille in France’s Ligue 1.

Chelle expressed displeasure over the leak, describing the information as confidential and questioning how the details became public. According to him, the disclosure may have been orchestrated by individuals who are opposed to his continued leadership of the national team.

The Super Eagles coach said he was surprised that private discussions surrounding his contract negotiations were made public. He suggested the leak could be part of an attempt to create circumstances that might ultimately lead to his removal.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding the negotiations, Chelle maintained that he remains committed to his role. He emphasized that his current contract with the NFF still has one year remaining and stated his intention to continue working with the team during that period.
