Eric Chelle Faces Legal Dispute Amid Angola Interest
By BSN Sports
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle could face legal complications if he proceeds with plans to leave his position following a reported offer from Angola, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Chelle, who still has one year remaining on his current contract with the Nigeria national football team, is said to be weighing a fresh proposal from the Angolan football authorities. Sources indicate the offer has made a strong impression on the coach.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), however, is keen to retain him and has opened discussions over a new two-year contract extension. Negotiations are believed to have stalled after Chelle recently changed his agent, a move that has added a layer of complexity to the talks.
According to French journalist Romain Molina, Chelle’s former agent may pursue legal action should the coach accept the Angolan offer, arguing that the proposal was initiated while their professional relationship was still in effect.
The NFF remains optimistic that Chelle will either commit to a new deal or honour the final year of his existing contract. The coach enhanced his standing after guiding Nigeria to a third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Should Chelle opt to terminate his contract prematurely, federation officials are expected to seek compensation equivalent to the remaining year of his agreement.
For now, the situation remains fluid, with contractual obligations and potential legal challenges looming over any possible departure.
