Eswatini Coach Steps Down Following Shock Defeats To Eritrea

Sifiso Ntibane has stepped down from his role as interim head coach of the Eswatini national team following their early elimination from the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Ntibane confirmed his departure after a disappointing run of results against Eritrea in the preliminary round. The team, known as Eswatini national football team, suffered consecutive defeats — a 2–0 loss away and a 2–1 defeat on home soil — to the Eritrea national football team.

The back-to-back losses marked a significant setback for Eswatini, whose hopes of progressing to the group stage of the qualifiers were ended prematurely. The final defeat, recorded on Sunday, confirmed their exit from contention.

Ntibane, who previously served as assistant coach before taking on the interim role, had been tasked with guiding the team through the early stages of qualification. However, the unexpected nature of the results ultimately brought his tenure to an abrupt close.

Eswatini’s early departure from the campaign highlights the challenges facing the national side as they seek to re-establish competitiveness on the continental stage.
