Eto’o Set To Sack Brys Before AFCON 2025

Following the shocking elimination of the Cameroon national football team from the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on 13 November 2025 with a 0-1 defeat in the semi‐final playoff all eyes have turned to the leadership of the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) and its president, Samuel Eto’o, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Many within and around Cameroonian football believe Eto’o has already identified the man to bear the blame: current coach Marc Brys.

Eto’o, the former five-time Africa Cup of Nations winner turned administrator, is reportedly working behind the scenes to replace Brys ahead of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations 2025 campaign.

The move comes amid growing frustration over the team’s downward trajectory and mounting pressure from fans, the media and past legends of the game.

One such voice is that of Joseph‑Antoine Bell, the former Cameroonian international goalkeeper, who publicly held Brys accountable for the poor showing and the failure to meet national expectations.

In the wake of the defeat, Bell’s criticism has amplified the calls for change at the helm of the national team.

For Brys, the storm clouds have been gathering for some time. His relationship with FECAFOOT and its president has been strained ever since his appointment, and his stance on team autonomy has only exacerbated tensions.

Notably, Brys declared ahead of AFCON 2025 that Eto’o would not be allowed into the team’s dressing room a move that highlighted a deeper rift between coach and federation.

As the countdown to the tournament begins, Cameroon must prepare both on and off the pitch. While the players and technical staff focus on rebuilding morale and tactical coherence, the federation must navigate the leadership shake-up looming in the background.
