Ex-CAF Secretary General Demands Major Overhaul of Congolese Domestic Football

President of the Congolese Football Federation (FECOFA), Véron Mosengo-Omba, has called for comprehensive reforms aimed at revitalising domestic football, expressing concern over the current structure and administration of the national league, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Mosengo-Omba criticised a championship system that operates without relegation, citing an irregular competition calendar, repeated delays to the start of seasons and the growing tendency for key decisions to be resolved administratively rather than on the field of play.

The FECOFA president said meaningful progress would require the introduction of stricter regulations, improved discipline and a significant shift in mentality across all levels of Congolese football.

He also made it clear that clubs should no longer expect personal relationships or influence to exempt them from the federation's rules, stressing that fairness and accountability must underpin the governance of the game.

"No club is above the others when it comes to regulations," Mosengo-Omba said, reaffirming that football statutes and regulations must be applied impartially and without favouritism.

His remarks underscore FECOFA's commitment to strengthening governance, restoring credibility and creating a more transparent and competitive domestic football system.
