Ex-CAF Secretary General Set To Take Over DR Congo Football Federation As Rivals Withdraw
Sampson Adedeji
Former Confederation of African Football (CAF) Secretary General, Veron Mosengo-Omba, is set to emerge as the new president of the DR Congo Football Federation (FECOFA) after all other candidates reportedly withdrew from the race, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Reports emerging from the Democratic Republic of Congo indicated that the remaining contestants in the FECOFA presidential election stepped down, leaving Mosengo-Omba as the sole candidate ahead of the polls.
Sources close to the process claimed that there were directives from both government authorities and FIFA to ensure a smooth and uncontested path for the former CAF administrator.
Mosengo-Omba previously served as the Secretary General of CAF and remains one of the most influential football administrators on the African continent.
His expected emergence is seen by many observers as a major step in the restructuring of football administration in DR Congo following years of internal challenges within the federation.
