Former Super Eagles and Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, has taken up a new coaching role in South Africa, joining Future of Africa, a Gauteng Development League side, as their new goalkeeper coach, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The 39-year-old veteran shot-stopper brings a wealth of experience to the youth development setup, having enjoyed an illustrious playing career that spanned across several top South African clubs, including Chippa United and Marumo Gallants.

Akpeyi, who also represented Nigeria at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, holds a CAF D License and is now channeling his passion for the game into nurturing the next generation of goalkeepers.

During his active days, he was widely respected for his calm presence between the sticks and his excellent reflexes, which earned him a PSL Goalkeeper of the Season nomination in the 2019/2020 campaign.

Speaking about his new chapter, Akpeyi expressed excitement over the opportunity to contribute to football development in South Africa, saying his focus will be on “building confident, modern goalkeepers who understand the game both technically and tactically.”

His appointment has been well received by the local football community, who believe his experience at both international and club level will be invaluable to the young talents under his watch.
