Former Nigeria U20 women’s national team coach, Abdullahi Mansur said the glory following the feat achieved by the Nigeria U17 Women’s team should be directed at the newly elected NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau.
Aboki Coach as he is fondly called by his admirer admitted that the team was prepared and qualified for the World Cup under Amaju Pinnick led board, he however, attributed the bronze medal won by the team to good luck and morale boosting arrival of the President to the team in India.
“The win against Germany showed that Nigeria football will witness influx of trophies in the next four years. Gusau is a lucky President, Mansur said.
“We can not forget in a hurry, the eight years of trophy drought under Amaju Pinnick. I cant remember him visiting our U17 women’s national for a day even at the World Cup. But Gusau was in India for more than four days. That to me is a morale boosting support from the President which contributed immensely to winning Germany on Sunday.
He urged the Gusau led NFF to re-ignite the U13 women’s national team adding that such initiative will make Nigeria compete with the best football nations at the senior World Cup.
“The NFF should re-start the U17 Women’s team known as the Future Falcons. This will help the country to catch talented players at young age and also help in transiting them into senior national teams. I believe with this, we can compete with any football nation particularly at the senior World Cup.
Nigeria on Sunday at the just-concluded FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in India defeated Germany 3-2 on penalties to emerge third best team at the competition.
