Ex-Super Eagles Star Makes Case For Local Coaches
By Sampson Adedeji
Former Super Eagles forward Benedict Akwuegbu has made a case for employment of local coaches for the Super Eagles if the federation fails to extend Jose Peseir's contract, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The former Austria-based forward made the statement during a chat on a WhatsApp group and further cited the example of Senegal, Cameroon and Morocco.
"I think we should give our local coaches a chance because other countries have their local coaches and they are doing very well, for example, Senegal, Morocco, all that we needed to do is to pay them well and give them a free hand.
"I believe Nigeria coaches can deliver, if we have a good atmosphere, pay them very well and give them a free hand, I think they will do well", he said.
The Nigeria Football Federation is yet to extend the contract of Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro since it expired in June.
Akwuegbu who was part of the Super Eagles team in the 2002 FIFA World Cup is now based in the United Kingdom.
