Ex-Super Eagles Star Receives Best Achievers Award From Ruskin University

Former International Ben Akwuegbu has been awarded the Angel Ruskin University London, Best Achievers award.

An elated Akwuegbu stated that the award is in recognition of his numerous achievements in the areas of Sports and academics.

He expressed his appreciation to the Institution and promised to work harder in his field of endeavors.

Benedict Akwuegbu started his career at the age of 15 in Nigeria before moving to French outfit RC Lens at the age of 17, where he spent five years in Belgium with KRC Harelbeke, KSV Waregem, KVK Tienen. Austrian side Grazer AK signed him after the 1998 season.

He won the Austrian Cup and Austrian Supercup in 2000 and 2002 with Grazer AK and also the league title in 2004 with his good performance. He won the Best Foreign Player and nicknamed “Austrian Bomber” by the press. He played in 20 European games as he scored 12 including some remarkable goals.

In April 2007, Akwuegbu was signed by Qingdao Jonoon, and had a good season with them.

Akwuegbu was a member of the Nigeria U-16 World Cup team in 1989 hosted by Scotland.

In 2000, he was a member of the Super Eagles team the played Africa Cup of Nations tournament which was jointly hosted by Nigeria and Ghana. He also made it to 2002 World Cup hosted by Japan and Korea.

Benedict Akwuegbu contested elections into the Board of the Nigeria Football Federation in last NFF elections held in Benin City. He is the Proprietor of Ben Akwuegbu FC based in Jos, Plateau state.
