Extra-Time Goals Send ENPPI Past Ex-Nigeria Coach's Club In Egypt Last Eight Clash
By Niyi Busari
Telecom Egypt SC’s impressive Egyptian Cup campaign came to an end on Saturday night following a 2–0 extra-time defeat to ENPPI SC in the quarter-finals, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Coached by Aliyu Zubair, Telecom produced a determined performance over 90 minutes, holding their opponents at bay and forcing the contest into extra time. However, ENPPI capitalised on decisive moments in the additional period, scoring twice to seal progression to the semi-finals.
Despite the disappointment, the result capped a memorable run for Telecom. Under Zubair’s leadership, the club reached the quarter-finals of the prestigious competition for the first time in its history — a landmark achievement that underlined their steady rise.
Telecom’s cup journey had already captured attention earlier in the tournament when they stunned Al Ahly SC with a dramatic 2–1 comeback victory in the Round of 32. The triumph over the African heavyweights was widely regarded as one of the competition’s biggest upsets and showcased Zubair’s tactical acumen.
With their cup adventure concluded, Telecom will now turn their focus back to league action as they aim to maintain momentum and build on a season that has already delivered historic milestones.
Aliyu Zubairu led Nigeria Flying Eagles to a third place finish at the CAF U20 Africa Nations Cup in Egypt in 2025.
