President of the Benin Football Federation, Mathurin De Marcus, has confirmed he will step down from his position in 2026, despite growing pressure for him to continue in office, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

De Marcus, who took over in August 2018 after the tenure of Anjorin Moucharaf, has overseen significant progress in Beninese football.

Speaking on Thursday morning, he reiterated his decision to quit and clarified that he has no preferred successor.

“Many are urging me to amend the constitution and stay on, but I told them I’m tired,” he stated.

“I have said repeatedly that I do not have a candidate. However, I will support the best person someone who meets the aspirations of the role and can continue what we have built together.”

During his tenure, the Cheetahs secured qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and remain in contention for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
