Belgian side FC Dender have provided an official update on the injury suffered by Nigeria’s Super Eagles defender Benjamin Fredrick, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The versatile defender picked up the setback during a training session earlier in the week, a development which has ruled him out of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations scheduled to take place in Morocco.
In a statement issued on Friday evening, the club confirmed the nature of the injury and detailed the next steps in his recovery process.
“Behind the scenes, we’re working hard to help our injured players recover. With this update, we’d like to keep you informed on their progress,” the club announced.
“Benjamin has suffered a knee injury. He is now beginning his rehabilitation in England at Brentford.”
Fredrick, a former Nigeria U20 star, has quickly become an important figure for the Super Eagles since making his debut against Jamaica in May.
He has started in Eric Chelle’s last six games for the national team. The highly rated defender joined Dender last summer on a season-long loan from Premier League club Brentford.
His absence will be a major blow to both club and country as he continues his journey back to full fitness.
