FC Ebedei Crowned Cool Hopefuls Cup Champions
FC Ebedei were crowned the champions of the maiden Cool Hopefuls Cup after defeating B. E Arena FC 4-2 in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time at the FC Ebedei Stadium in Apele-Sagamu, Ogun State.
This was the second meeting between the two pieces in the Preseason/Scouting tourney sponsored by Ebedei Sports College, with FC Ebedei having previously edged out B. E Arena in the group stage, winning 1-0. As expected, the final proved to be a more challenging contest, with both teams vying for the prestigious title.
The match saw an exciting first half, which ended with no goals, but the second half delivered more action. Fanen Tekula opened the scoring for FC Ebedei in the 47th minute. Shile Lawal appeared to extend their lead shortly after, netting what would have been his seventh goal of the preseason tournament. However, his effort was disallowed for offside by the assistant referee.
B. E Arena FC equalized in the 67th minute through a spectacular strike from Emmanuel Nweke that brought them back into the game.
In the final 13 minutes and added time, both goalkeepers, Ojo Daniel and Chibuzor Nwaiwu, showcased their skills with several impressive saves, keeping their teams in contention.
As the match went to penalties to determine the champion, FC Ebedei's Ojo Daniel stood out, saving two B. E Arena FC spot kicks. Meanwhile, his teammates converted all four of their penalties, ensuring FC Ebedei's victory and securing the title.
