The FCT Chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN has commended the Interim Management Committee, IMC for the just-concluded Nigeria Premier League, for a successful completion of the season and the Super Six which took place in Lagos without rancour from any quarter, reports BSNSports.com.ng.
The Association also congratulates the Nigeria Football Federation, for giving the IMC the opportunity and the needed support to run the league to its logical conclusion without interferences.
FCT SWAN through its chairman, Comrade Bunmi Haruna however urged the NFF and by extension, the organizers of the league to kickstart the next season on time to avoid the abuse of abridged league.
Haruna further said, "We can now align with what is happening in the leagues in other parts of the world especially in Europe. In order to avoid our players sneaking out of the country for trials when our league is on, we need to start on time."
The Association also commends the sponsor of the league, GTI for coming to the rescue of the league while urging them to increase their sponsorship. SWAN also call on other corporate bodies to rally round the leagues in the country and by extension the football ruling body, NFF, as it is done in other parts of the world.
However, he urges the IMC to subsequently work with the media because football and Sports in general is a media-game.
The chairman while commending the league body said, "You have done very well. However, we want to urge you to work with the media. The media is not happy with what happened in the league and the Super Six hence we are calling on the league body to involve us subsequently in your activities. Try and work more with the media so that we can have the best organised league in the country, and that is the only way more sponsors can be attracted and the league will also enjoy more followership and acceptability from Nigerian fans."
The chairman also use the opportunity to congratulate the champions of the men and women league, NPFL and NWFL, Enyimba of Aba and Delta Queens of Asaba respectively and all the teams that qualified for the continent.
His words, "You are worthy champions and we believe you will represent us well in the continent. We however urge all our country's representatives to commence preparation in earnest so that they can do well and emerge victorious in their various outings on the continent."
Finally, he commended the Nigeria Referees Association, NRA for fair officiating throughout the league and the Super Six tournament in Lagos but charged them to do better because there were complaints in some quarters that must be addressed to avoid a repeat before the commencement of the new season.
