The ongoing electoral process at the Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has taken a dramatic twist as the candidacy of incumbent president Samuel Eto’o has reportedly been rejected on legal grounds, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

According to Article 31 of the Cameroonian Nationality Code, “a Cameroonian adult who voluntarily acquires or retains a foreign nationality loses their Cameroonian nationality.”

The provision implies that Eto’o, who is believed to hold dual nationality, is ineligible to contest in the upcoming elections, rendering his candidacy illegal under the current regulations.

The development, reported by CFOOT, has sparked widespread debate across the Cameroonian football community, coming at a time when tension around FECAFOOT’s election continues to escalate.

Eto’o, a football legend and former Barcelona striker, has been embroiled in multiple controversies during his tenure, and his eligibility status is expected to trigger further legal and political reactions.
