FG, NSC and NFF Throw Weight Behind Super Falcons Before Egypt Test

The leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has charged the Super Falcons to defeat Egypt in their decisive final Group C fixture and secure qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2026 CAF Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Nigeria heads into the encounter needing all three points to keep alive its quest for a record-extending 11th continental title. The Super Falcons suffered a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Malawi in their opening match before responding with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Zambia to revive their campaign.

Ahead of Wednesday night's crucial fixture, officials of the NSC and the NFF on Tuesday met with the players and technical crew to reaffirm the Federal Government's commitment and support as the team pursues another continental triumph.

Speaking during the meeting, the NFF General Secretary assured the team of the unwavering backing of the Federal Government, the National Sports Commission, the Nigeria Football Federation and millions of Nigerians.

"The Federal Government, the National Sports Commission and the Nigeria Football Federation are fully behind you. We urge you to go all out and defeat Egypt in your final group match," he said.

He stressed that beyond qualification for the knockout stage, the match also carries significant importance in Nigeria's pursuit of a place at the next FIFA Women's World Cup.

"As Africa's most successful women's national team, it is important that we continue to compete at the highest level by securing World Cup qualification while also defending the continental title," he added.

The NFF General Secretary further assured the team that the authorities would continue to meet their obligations.

"On our part, through the National Sports Commission, we will fulfil all our responsibilities, both financially and otherwise, to ensure the team has everything required to succeed."

Wednesday's encounter at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, is scheduled to kick off at 9:00 p.m. (WAT) and represents Nigeria's final opportunity to book a place in the last eight.

While Nigeria remains firmly in contention for a quarter-final berth, Egypt enters the fixture without a point after defeats in its opening two matches. Nevertheless, the North Africans will be aiming to end their campaign on a positive note, making the contest a potentially challenging affair.

The Super Falcons, who are among the tournament favourites, are expected to rely on their experience, defensive organisation and attacking quality as they seek victory and continue their pursuit of another African crown.

A win over Egypt would not only secure Nigeria's passage to the knockout stage but also restore confidence after an inconsistent start to the tournament, strengthening the team's ambition of successfully defending its WAFCON title.
