Nigeria's U-19 women’s basketball team have secured a place in the Round of 16 at the ongoing FIBA U-19 Women’s Basketball World Cup, despite falling to Portugal in their final Group B fixture on Tuesday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The team, seeking a rebound from their earlier heavy loss to Canada, were defeated 79–61 by the Portuguese side. Despite the setback, Nigeria’s earlier win in the group stage proved crucial in clinching third place in the group standings.

Group B concluded with Canada maintaining a perfect record to top the group, followed by Portugal in second. Nigeria finished third with one win and two losses, while China ended in fourth position.

With the group stage concluded, Nigeria will now turn their focus to the knockout phase, where they will face a team from Group A in the Round of 16.
