Sampson Adedeji
Nigeria’s D’Tigress saw their campaign at the FIBA Women's World Cup Qualifying Tournament come to an end following a 81-73 defeat to Germany on Tuesday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Nigerian side, who were hoping to bounce back after their earlier loss to France on matchday four, fell short despite a spirited performance against the Europeans.
Germany made a strong start to the contest, taking the opening quarter 17-14 and maintaining a slim advantage with a 34-31 lead at halftime.
D’Tigress, however, responded positively after the break and fought back to level the scores at 52-52 by the end of the third quarter, setting up a tense final period.
In the decisive fourth quarter, the Germans proved more clinical, pulling away to secure an 81-73 victory and seal Nigeria’s fate in the tournament.
Despite the defeat, the qualifying tournament served as preparation for D’Tigress, who have already secured their place at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup after emerging champions at the last FIBA Women's AfroBasket Championship.
