Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, Nigeria women's national basketball team, popularly known as D’Tigress, set a new rebounding record at the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2026 Qualifying Tournaments following their impressive victory over the Philippines women's national basketball team, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The African champions recorded 58 rebounds in their commanding 101–84 win over the Philippines on Saturday in Lyon–Villeurbanne, setting a new all-time high for rebounds in a single game in the tournament’s qualifying history.

Nigeria’s dominance on the boards proved decisive as they used their physical presence to control the game, particularly in the second half, to seal the convincing win.

However, the record did not stand alone for long as Canada women's national basketball team matched the feat just hours later.

 Canada also grabbed 58 rebounds in their emphatic 75–41 victory over the Argentina women's national basketball team during their qualifying game in Istanbul.

The identical tally means both Nigeria and Canada now share the record for the most rebounds in a single game in the history of the World Cup qualifying tournaments.

Before the new mark, the previous record stood at 57 rebounds, jointly held by Czechia women's national basketball team and the Australia women's national basketball team, who achieved the feat in separate games earlier in the competition.

Nigeria’s record-setting performance further underlined their strength in the paint as they continue their campaign at the qualifying tournament.
