FIFA, CAF React To Crisis Rocking Malian Football

The world football governing body, FIFA, and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) have reacted to the ongoing crisis engulfing Malian football, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Malian football has been in turmoil since the national team’s exit at the quarter-final stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, a development that triggered internal unrest within the football administration.

The crisis culminated in the removal of Malian Football Federation (FEMAFOOT) president, Mamatou Touré, alongside the resignation of members of the federation’s Executive Committee.

In a joint statement, FIFA and CAF confirmed the administrative vacuum at the federation and announced interim governance measures.

“FIFA and CAF have acknowledged the complete vacancy of the Executive Committee following the resignations at the Malian Football Federation".

"The Secretary General is responsible for managing day-to-day affairs and will convene an extraordinary elective General Assembly, under the supervision of FIFA and CAF, until a new Executive Committee is elected,” the statement said.

Both bodies reaffirmed their commitment to restoring stability and institutional order in Malian football, stressing that the transition process will be closely monitored to ensure transparency, legality, and good governance.
