FIFA Fines Senegal 112 Million CFA, Ban Fans From Senegal Home Match

FIFA has ordered Senegal to play one match behind closed doors and also pay a fine of 175,000 Swiss Franc (112 Million West Africa CFA) for the use of lasers, lighting off fireworks, invasion of the pitch and failure to maintain order and security during their 2022 World Cup qualifier vs Egypt on March 29 at the Abdoulaye Wade Stadium in Dakar, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

The game was surrounded by many controversies ahead of the game as the Egyptian team bus got delayed and attacked, which led to reports of the EFA requesting to postpone the game by 30 minutes.

Moreover, the players had bottles thrown at them during the game, with the EFA also claiming that the team was under the subject of racism due to some of the offensive banners in the Senegalese stands aimed at skipping off Mohamed Salah.

Reasons behind the sanctions on Senegal came as follows: “Order and security at matches (failure to implement existing safety rules and failure to ensure that law and order are maintained in the stadium, invasion of the field of play, throwing of objects, lighting of fireworks, use of laser pointers and use of objects to transmit a message that is not appropriate for a sports events – offensive banner.”.
