FIFA Referees Course Ends in Abuja As NFF Pushes For Global Standards

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has finalised preparations for a six-day CAF B-License refresher course scheduled to begin on June 21, 2026, at the NFF/FIFA Goal Project in Abuja, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

NFF Technical Director, Augustine Eguavoen, said the programme is designed to renew and upgrade the qualifications of coaches who already possess the CAF B License and are seeking progression to the CAF A-License level.

According to Eguavoen, the refresher course forms part of the federation's broader efforts to address gaps in coaching certification across the country.

"We have made significant progress with the C, D and B Licenses. What we are doing now is refreshing coaches who already hold the B License so they can remain current and qualify for the next level," he said.

Due to the large number of applicants, the programme will be conducted in two batches of 25 participants each. The first batch will run from June 21 to 23, while the second will take place from June 23 to 25.

Eguavoen explained that limiting the number of participants per batch would enhance the quality of learning and interaction during the sessions.

Following the refresher programme, the NFF will assess participants and determine those eligible for the CAF A-License course, which is expected to commence in August and will accommodate only 25 coaches.

The Technical Director also revealed that the course would be facilitated entirely by Nigerian coach educators certified by FIFA and CAF, led by NFF Head of Coaching Education, Dr Terry Eguaoje.

Among the certified instructors are Eguavoen himself, Monday Odigie, Edema Fuludu and NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi.

Dr Eguaoje said the federation remains committed to ensuring Nigerian coaches are aligned with contemporary coaching methodologies and CAF requirements.

"Upon successful completion of the refresher course, participants will have their CAF B diplomas renewed and become eligible to apply for the upcoming A-License programme," he said.
