FIFA Threatens Central African Republic Over Rigobert Song’s Appointment
Sampson Adedeji
World football governing body FIFA has warned the Central African Republic (CAR) over government interference following the controversial appointment of Cameroonian coach Rigobert Song, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
Song was appointed last week by CAR’s Ministry of Sports without consulting the country's football federation, which had instead favored a local coach. In response, the Federation of Central African Republic Football (FCFA) named Eloge Enza-Yamissi as the national team’s head coach.
The federation has since reported the matter to FIFA, prompting the global football body to issue a strong warning to the CAR government. FIFA cautioned the ministry against interfering in football matters, emphasizing that failure to comply could result in sanctions, including a possible ban.
It remains to be seen how the Ministry of Sports will respond, especially given its recent disputes with other sports bodies, including the Central African Olympic Committee.
