Flamingos head coach, Bankole Olowookeere, has attributed Nigeria’s 4-1 defeat to Canada in their opening Group D match of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup to costly errors and missed opportunities, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

Canada proved dominant in the second half, capitalizing on Nigeria’s defensive lapses to seal a convincing victory in Salé, Morocco.

Speaking after the game, Coach Bankole admitted his side paid the price for failing to convert their early chances.

“This was a huge game. Sometimes mistakes happen,” he said.

“We had our chances in the first half but didn’t take advantage of them, and we paid dearly for it. It’s a lesson we’ll keep learning. We’ll go back, review our performance, and see how we can bounce back stronger.”

Nigeria will now look to recover ahead of their next group fixture as they aim to keep their qualification hopes alive.
