FIFA U17 Women's World Cup: Colombia Edge Flamingos 6-5 On Penalties
Sampson Adedeji
The hope of the U17 women's team Flamingos reaching the final of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in India has finally ended, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Nigerian side started the competition slowly losing the opening game to Germany before beating New Zealand and Chile and growing in the tournament.
They defeated the highly-rated United States in the quarter-final and have high hope going into the semi-final.
The semi-final game against Colombia proved too much for the Flamingos as the South American side dominated the game from the blast of the whistle.
Nigeria goalkeeper Omilana came to the rescue of the team on numerous occasions and Colombia should have had the ball in the net in the first half but the referee overruled it.
After the two teams could not be separated after 90 minutes, it was stretched into a penalty shoot-out, and the Colombians sealed their win 6-5 with Folorunsho missing Flamingoes' last kick.
