FIFA U17 Women's World Cup: Colombia End Flamingos Dream of Final Appearance
The hope of the U17 women's team Flamingos to reach the final of the ongoing FIFA World Cup in India has finally ended, BSNSports.com.ng report.
The Nigerian side started the competition slowly losing the opening game to Germany before beating New Zealand and Chile and growing in the tournament.
They defeated the highly-rated United States in the quarter-final and have high hope going into the semi-final.
The game against Colombia in the semi-final proved too much for the Nigeria team as the South American side dominated the game from the blast of the whistle.
Nigeria goalkeeper Omilana came to the rescue of the team on numerous occasions and Colombia has the ball in the net in the first half but the referee overruled it as offside goal.
The two teams could not be separated after 90 minutes, the center referee decided to take the into penalty shoot-out as winner decider. Colombia sealed their win 6-5 with Folorunsho missing Flamingoes' last kick.
The Flamingos following the loss have missed the opportunity of getting the Five thousand dollars the Nigeria Football Federation President promised to give as motivation.
