FIFA U17 Women's World Cup: Germany Edge Flamingoes in Goa
The Nigeria U17 Women's national team on Tuesday lost 1-2 to Germany in their first group B match in Goa, BSNSports.com.ng can report.
The two football powerhosuse clashed in the opening group match in Goa but the European champions subdued the African and triumphed after 90 minutes.
Miracle Usani gave Nigeria the opening goal in the 30th minute through a penalty and the Flamingoes took the lead into the half time.
The German side returned for the second half as the better side as they seized control of the game while Nigerian girls struggled for possession.
The Germans' efforts finally paid off as they got an equaliser in the 50th minute through Hamburg midfielder Stoldt after a mix-up in Nigeria's defence.
Flamingoes missed an opportunity to regain their lead in the 60th minute through Opeyemi Ajakaiye before Alber netted the second goal for Germany a minute later.
The Nigeria side pushed for an equalizer but the German backline was able to hold on and secure a 2-1 win.
Flamingoes will have another opportunity to redeem their battered image when they face New Zealand in the second group game.
