FIFA U20 WC: Flying Eagles Were Unlucky - Aliyu Zubairu
Precious Oham
Flying Eagles head coach, Aliyu Zubairu, said the team were unlucky in their opening defeat to Norway in the the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, BSNSports.com.ng reports.
The Flying Eagles were unlucky to lose 0-1 to Norway despite dominating play and creating a hatful of chances, particularly in the second period.
Norway went ahead after they were awarded a contested penalty in the 9th minute, but the Flying Eagles fought hard to redeem things, only to be denied penalty awards on two occasions in the second half.
In his post-match reaction, Zubairu acknowledged that possession doesn't win games but blamed his side profligacy in front of goal for the defeat.
His words: "The boys gave their all, just unlucky at key moments. Possession doesn’t win games; if one of those chances had gone in, it would’ve been different. Now we move — focus on Saudi Arabia, and we go for the 3 points."
The Flying Eagles will take on Saudi Arabia in their second match of the competition on Thursday.
