FIFA U20 Women's World Cup: Falconets Beat Australia In Friendly Game

Nigeria U20 women's national team, Falconets defeated their Australian counterparts 2-1 in a friendly game played in Colombia on Friday, BSNSports.com.ng reports.

After the victory, the Australian team officials requested that they engaged with the Falconets on penalties. The 2010 and 2014 World Cup runners-up won the shootouts 4-3.

An NFF official who was with team and watched the match commended the players and officials for their performance against the Australian team

"The team is in high spirits. As I speak with you, we (Falconets) just defeated Australia 2-1 in their first friendly match. And also beat them 5-4 in a penalty shootout challenge. They played well and deserved the victory.

"The NFF has arranged other friendly matches for them before their first group D game against Korea Republic." He concluded.

Nigeria are in Group D with Germany, Venezuela and Korea Republic

The Nigeria Football Federation deliberately scheduled a two-week preparations for the team to acclimatize and perfect their strategy ahead of their first group match match versus Korea Republic on Monday 2nd September.

Two days later, on Wednesday, 4th September, Germany will trade tackles with the Nigeria team at 11:00pm before taking on Venezuela in their last group match.

The 2024 FIFA U20 women's world cup will be hosted by Colombia from 31 August to 22 September 2024. It will be the third time that Colombia has hosted a FIFA tournament. It will also be the first time that Colombia has hosted a FIFA women's tournament.

Spain are the defending champions.
